Chelsea - Grosvenor Bridge
Grosvenor Bridge, opened 1860, spans the River Thames, carrying rail traffic to and from London Victoria Station. To the left is the Western Pumping Station, a key part of London's wastewater drainage system. The pumping station was built over 150 years ago by the celebrated Victorian engineer, Bazalgette, The distinctive and ornate chimney was part of the apparatus that drove huge steam engines in the adjacent building, pumping sewage from West London over to the east to be processed (a bit) before being dumped in the River Thames downstream from London.
