Chelsea - Western Pumping Station
Chelsea - Western Pumping Station
Beside the Grosvenor [railway] Bridge is a key part of London's wastewater drainage system. The pumping station was built over 150 years ago by the celebrated Victorian engineer, Bazalgette, The distinctive and ornate chimney was part of the apparatus that drove huge steam engines in the adjacent building, pumping sewage from West London over to the east to be processed (a bit) before being dumped in the River Thames downstream from London.
